An alleged drunken driver dragged a decorated White Plains police officer before setting off on a high-speed chase over the weekend, according to authorities.

The situation began at Lola's Restaurant at around 4 a.m. Sunday, when bouncers alerted police that a man who they just kicked out might have a gun. When Officer Anthony Carra went to question the man, identified as Nino Valvano, of Mount Kisco, authorities say he struck Carra with his car.

Instead of stopping, Valvano allegedly sped down East Post Road, dragging Carra about 100 feet before he lost his grip. Carra then radioed a description of the vehicle and where it was headed, according to Commissioner David Chong.

Police say that Valvano called 911 in the middle of the chase, fearing that he would be shot and killed by pursuing officers. The officer on the line calmed Valvano down and got him to pull over. He was then placed under arrest.

Carra suffered bumps and bruises all over his body, but managed to go back to work later that day for an overnight shift. The officer is also credited with saving an 84-year-old man who was trapped in a burning home last month.

Valvano faces a slew of charges, including assault of a police officer.
