30,000 pounds of food distributed in Rockland County to those facing food insecurity

According to officials, the event is in response to the more than 54,000 Rockland residents who have lost their snap benefits.

Various organizations, including The Regional Food Bank Hudson Valley and TOUCH-Together Our Unity Can Heal, Inc., hosted a drive-thru food bank Thursday to distribute food to those in need at Clover Stadium.

A total of 24 pallets, equating to over 30,000 pounds of food were distributed.

According to officials, the event is in response to the more than 54,000 Rockland residents who have lost their snap benefits.

Officials called it "a snap crisis."

"This is a really urgent situation, you can see families here, families with kids, who don't know where they're going to get food and they can't pay the bills already," said Julian Palmer, with TOUCH-Together Our Unity Can Heal, Inc.

There will be another food distribution event on Nov. 22. at Clover Stadium with Thanksgiving food, ahead of the holiday.
