Yonkers police announced the arrests Thursday of 30 people in a widespread, yearlong drug investigation.
Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett said undercover detectives bought drugs all over the city, including near schools, during the probe. The suspects were allegedly dealing cocaine, heroin, marijuana and prescription pills.
"A case like this is an example of the scope and impact of drug dealing in our neighborhoods," Hartnett said.
The suspects range in age, race and sex, but Hartnett said many of them are homeless and have previous convictions and arrests ? some for murder and manslaughter. One suspect was allegedly arrested with more than 50 bags of heroin in his possession.
The suspects face charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal sale of marijuana. Authorities are seeking 22 additional suspects.
