ICE detains man near wake for Ossining teen killed in crash

The mayor of Ossining says a man was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents across the street from a wake for a teen killed in a recent crash.
The incident happened in the Ossining High school.
Mayor Rika Levin says the man was wanted on previous outstanding criminal charges.
The wake was for 18-year-old Kevin Zhagui-Moroch, a recent high school graduate who was killed in a crash in Wallkill on Monday.
Mayor Levin says the man was not attending the wake.
An Ossining High School soccer game was also underway.
In a statement, Mayor Levin wrote about the incident:
"There is a time and place for federal law enforcement to carry out its responsibilities. Conducting an ICE operation in the immediate vicinity of a grieving family, our high school students, and a school athletic event—without any advance notification to local officials or the school district—was deeply upsetting and, in my view, unnecessarily disruptive to our community.
Our community deserves transparency and communication from federal authorities when their actions directly impact our residents, schools, and public spaces. As Mayor, I will continue to work closely with Chief Zimmerman, the Ossining School District, and our community partners to ensure that accurate information is shared, that everyone’s constitutional rights are respected, and that the safety and well-being of our residents remain our priority."
