An Ulster County woman has died following a shooting Monday night, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office says.

Sheriff's officers and New York State Police officers responded to a home on Route 213 in the Town of Esopus just before 11:30 p.m. for a report of a woman who was shot.

Police and EMS personnel provided aid to Brianna Wittle when they arrived. Wittle was taken to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, where she later died.

An investigation revealed that William Dearden and Wittle got into an argument, which authorities say turned physical. They say during the altercation, Dearden shot Wittle.

Dearden has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and taken to Ulster County Jail.
