Police say two 16-year-old boys were viciously attacked Tuesday night between Webster Avenue and East 187th Street.
A source tells News 12 the victims and the attacker were in a physical fight before a scalpel was used to carry out the violent act. The weapon used in the crime was recovered at the scene.
One of the teens was stabbed in the head, and the other was cut on the right side of his face. The boys were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
One person of interest is in custody but has not yet been charged, police sources said.
On Wednesday, one neighbor who walks by the Fordham neighborhood street every morning said she worries about her safety in that area after dark.
"At night I don't usually walk this way… it's just too dark, too secluded, and there's more possibilities for things to happen. So I'll usually go the other way where I know there's more people," said Louisa, who did not want to give her last name.
Other neighbors say they continue to be tormented by crimes nearby. On Monday, a fatal shooting at 413 E. 187th St. left a 21-year-old man dead. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
