Drivers are being warned about delays as roadwork gets underway on Route 9W in Rockland County.

A three-mile stretch of the roadway through Orangetown will be closed in both directions.

The closure runs from the intersection of Route 9W and Hickey Street in Piermont to Shadyside Avenue in Upper Grandview.

State officials say the work is needed to perform maintenance along the roadway.

The closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

Drivers are urged to follow posted detours and plan for extra travel time.

Officials say the good news is the work is scheduled after the morning rush and is expected to wrap up before the evening commute.
