Gunman opens fire outside high school in Crotona Park

Shots were fired outside a high school in Crotona Park, police say.

Officers responded to Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School at 1021 Jennings St. just before 3 p.m. Monday, around the time of the school's dismissal.

The Department of Education tells News 12 that students were placed in a brief shelter-in-place following the gunfire.

News 12 crews observed officers searching for shell casings at the scene.

Authorities say no one was hurt and there was no property damage from the bullets.

The gunman remains on the run as of Monday evening.
