A 39-year-old Saugerties man has been convicted of manslaughter for fatally beating a man following a Halloween party in 2022.

The Ulster County District Attorney’s Office says Joseph Karolys beat David “Mickey” Myer to death. His body was discovered on Route 32 the following day.

Prosecutors say Karolys attempted to cover up the crime by burning evidence. He faces up to 25 years in prison for manslaughter, assault and tampering with physical evidence.

In May 2024, Karolys was ordered to pay an $8 million fine by Attorney General Letitia James for illegal waste dumping at three properties.
