Two families are homeless after a fast-moving fire gutted a three-story house in Mount Vernon Sunday.
The two-alarm fire started on the second floor of the house on South 1st Avenue at around 11:30 a.m.
Over 20 firefighters were needed to attack the flames. The fire was so intense at one point that it melted the siding of the home next door.
The two families inside the house managed to escape with their pets unharmed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
