10 percent Metro-North fare hike begins
The cost of getting to work on Metro-North trains went up about 10 percent Wednesday for Hudson Valley commuters.
The fare hike, which the MTA originally announced would be 30-40 percent, was put in place to help shore up the transit agency's budget gap. A bailout from the state Legislature in May allowed the agency to back off the higher fare hikes.
The Albany rescue plan also includes a 50-cent surcharge on taxi rides and increases in vehicle registration and driver's license fees.
