Amid concerns about the coronavirus, Rockland County has canceled the long-running Youthfest event that was slated for Sunday out of an abundance of caution.
Youthfest, which attracts thousands, has been held at Rockland Community College for more than two decades and offered a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment for the county’s young people.

"Our primary concern is the health and safety of our residents, employees and vendors who were scheduled to attend,” says Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, the county’s commissioner of health. “While there are still no cases of COVID-19 in Rockland County, we know it is only a matter of time before there is a positive case."
Rockland County Executive Ed Day called it “the judicious thing to do.”
Earlier this week, Rockland took another precaution when Jeremy Schulman, the director of Economic Development and Tourism, announced it would pause efforts to promote the county as a destination for Chinese tourists.
“Given the current situation, we have decided it is prudent to pause this outreach and promotion program," he told News 12 in a statement.
