A state of
emergency is now in effect in Yorktown as the number of active coronavirus
cases continue to surge.
The state of
emergency was last in place in March during the start of the pandemic.
Masks are once
again required at all town facilities and parks.
"We want to
send a clear and a very strong message to our residents that we have to get
back in that March mindset and return to the vigilance and the compliance that
helped us flatten the curve," said Town Supervisor Matt Slater.
In another move to
help stop the spread of the virus, Yorktown officials are doubling the fine
from $500 to $1,000 for people who litter the community with their discarded
masks and gloves.
