The Yonkers teachers' union has scheduled an emergency Wednesday meeting to discuss a heated salary dispute.
The controversy broke out over annual raises included in the teachers' contracts, called "steps."
The union says every educator was pushed back one level in July, raising fears that teachers won't be compensated.
Yonkers School Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio insists the district followed the contract conditions. Although Pierorazio admits teachers were pushed back one "step," he argues that they were all advanced again in September.
Yonkers Federation of Teachers President Pat Puleo says she wants teachers to make a sensible decision on the issue during Wednesday's meeting. She would not use the word "strike" openly in her discussions.
