Officials have confirmed another staff member within the Yonkers School District has tested positive for the coronavirus.
A staff member at School 13 tested positive as the district is preparing to bring some students back into the building next week.
The person infected has not been inside the school since last Tuesday.
Yonkers Schools Superintendent Edwin Quezada announced that hybrid learning will begin Oct. 5 at all of the city's 40 public schools.
Officials say the district has invested nearly $12 million on coronavirus-related expenses such as ventilations repairs, masks and body temperature scanners to ensure the safety of students and staff.
"My team has done the work, we have informed our parents, we have provided the teachers the tools to do it," Quezada says. "We are working in collaboration with our teachers, administrators, our civil service employees to ensure that we're ready."
The Yonkers Teachers Union sent a letter to the community to express their safety concerns.
Officials from the Yonkers Parents and Teachers Association say they have visited more than a dozen schools and say classrooms are ready for in-person learning.
