The consequences of the Yonkers School District's budget deficit are now real, and it could mean job losses.
On Tuesday night, the Yonkers School Board approved a plan to lay off more than 100 people, including some 60 teachers.
"The board doesn't want to do any cuts, we're at bare bones now, but unfortunately there are adults that are really not concerned with the growth of children," says Yonkers School Superintendent Michael Yazurlo.
Hundreds of parents, teachers and students say that they plan to rally in Albany next week because the district says the $26 million shortfall currently faced by the district is something that can only be remedied by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Last year, Cuomo filled the $28 million budget gap caused by an accounting error.
