For some children, riding a school bus for the first time can be unnerving, but the Yonkers School District is finding a way to ease those first-day jitters.
The district's First Riders program allows children and their parents to check out their school bus together, so the youngsters will feel comfortable when school starts next week.
The young students also got to learn about bus safety. The children at the Westchester Hills Academy on Croydon Road participated in an emergency drill where they learned how to safely get off a bus.
Student Katherine Joseph, 4, didn't let the bus butterflies get her down. "I'm so excited!" she said, explaining that she was eager to meet "all those kids who can come to my house."
