Easter, one of the holiest days of the year for Christians around the world, brought parishioners into the pews Sunday morning.
In Yonkers, churchgoers packed into pews at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. According to the church bulletin, the parish was scheduled to have three special services.
News 12’s Jade Nash spoke with one parishioner attending the 8:30 a.m. Mass who explained why the holiday is sacred for so many people.
“It’s the main holiday of our religion and it’s great to see spring coming,” said Aquinas McElhatton.
Madison, 9, and her family members also attended the early morning mass. According to Madison, it’s become a family tradition throughout the years.
Meanwhile, a bilingual service took place at the First Baptist Church in White Plains. The service and following concert were facilitated in partnership with Misión Bautista Hispana De Westchester.
When asked why a multilingual service is important, Misión Bautista member Ruth Colon told News 12 it is “because Jesus came to save all of us, no matter the nationality or the language that you speak.”
Following the service and concert, an Easter egg hunt was scheduled for children.
