A funeral was held Friday in Yonkers for a man who will be remembered as someone who served both his country and his community.
Retired Yonkers Deputy Police Chief Edward Jones, 84, died Monday after a fire broke out in his home earlier in the month. Former Police Commissioner Robert Taggart recalled Jones as a mentor who led by example. Jones served in the Navy during World War II and also served Sacred Heart Parish, where his funeral Mass was held.
Jones is survived by a wife of 63 years, five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was remembered for his dedication to his job and to his family.
