The Thanksgiving spirit was hard to miss in Yonkers, where volunteers, first responders and local leaders came together to make sure families in need have a holiday meal.

At Coyne Park, The Matthew Wallace Foundation teamed up with Yonkers firefighters, Mount St. Michael Academy students, and community volunteers to distribute 400 turkeys and grocery bags to residents.

Organizers described Yonkers as “a small town that just happens to be the third largest city in New York state.”

A second giveaway at Engine 306 on Oak Street continued the effort. The Yonkers PBA, local firefighters and Councilmember Corazon Pineda-Isaac handed out turkeys and sides to ensure no family goes without a Thanksgiving dinner.
