Three kittens are safe after being rescued from the cold in Suffolk County.

Smithtown Town officials say animal rescuers jumped into action after a mother cat was found dead on Brooksite Drive.

The Town’s Animal Control team began searching for the cat’s newborn kittens fearing their exposure to the overnight cold temperatures.

Partnering with dedicated volunteers, flyers were distributed, doors were knocked, and social media alerts called on residents to remain vigilant.

With help from one resident who heard meowing, the team was able to locate the animals.

One kitten did not survive, but the other three will be available for adoption at the Smithtown Town Animal Shelter once they are healthy.
