Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone met with other elected officials Thursday to determine how to allocate their share of $25 billion that New York State is expected to receive under the $787 billion stimulus bill.

Among the top priorities on the agenda is the construction of a new roof and platforms at the Croton-Harmon Metro-North train station.

"The work is ready to be started, the designs have been done," says Rep. John Hall (D-Dover Plains). "The money just needs to be provided."

The criteria for narrowing the list of potential shovel-ready projects include job creation and speed - work must begin within three months.

Timothy Gilchrest, who was appointed by Gov. David Paterson to oversee the allocation of federal funds toward transportation and infrastructure, says the projects that are to receive financing will be selected in the coming weeks.

Amicone is asking for a total of $321 million worth of shovel-ready projects, including infrastructure upgrades to get the billion-dollar revitalization plan of downtown Yonkers under way.
