The Yonkers City Council voted today unanimously to extended its hotel tax.
The city charges hotel guests a 3 percent fee to stay in Yonkers hotels. The county taxes 3 percent as well.
The tax, which was first passed in 2015, generates about $900,000 in revenues. “The tax helps us on budgetary issues. I used to travel for business all the time and most places have a hotel tax. It doesn't impact the people who live here. It mostly impacts business people that travel here," says City Council Minority Leader Michael Sabatini (3rd District).
Now that the measure has passed, lawmakers in Albany must give their approval.
