A Yonkers woman and her boyfriend spent the day at the Harrison Police Department, answering questions regarding the death of her 1-year-old daughter.
"The two people that took the baby to the hospital were the mother and father, so obviously they are persons of interest," says Harrison Police Chief David Hall.
Hall confirms that the medical examiner has classified the baby?s death as a homicide. An autopsy report showed the infant died from blunt force trauma to the head and also suffered 23 broken ribs.
Police still have not released the names of the mother or the little girl, who was pronounced dead at Maria Fareri Children Hospital in Valhalla Saturday after sustaining injuries Sept. 9. Sources say the mother of the girl is an immigrant from Haiti and her boyfriend is from Jamaica. Sources say he is not the baby?s father.
Authorities say the girl?s mother told them she took her daughter to the Century Country Club in Purchase on Tuesday to visit her boyfriend, who works there as a dishwasher and lives in a residential unit on the club?s property. Police say that is where the child was killed.
Yonkers detectives launched the initial probe into the girl?s death last Saturday, and Harrison police took over the investigation Monday. They say an arrest in the case could be forthcoming.
