STORM WATCH: Hudson Valley braces for a nor'easter this weekend with rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding

A coastal storm is taking shape just south of the tri-state area now. This storm will get stronger tonight and through tomorrow and it won't be moving very much. The latest forecast has the center of the storm retrograding back toward New Jersey on Sunday. The storm will slowly weaken as it wobbles around the area into Monday morning. With this type of storm track, the entire tri-state area is in for a prolong period of gusty winds, coastal flooding, beach erosion and rain to the entire tri-state area.
A WIND ADVISORY has been issued for the lower Hudson Valley through Sunday morning. Winds will be out of the north-northeast at 25-35 mph with gusts that can go as high as 55 mph. Strong wind gusts can blow around unsecured objects and even bring tree branches or limbs down. Scattered power outages and downed trees are possible.
A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING is in effect for areas along the Hudson River, NY Harbor and the Long Island Sound through Sunday. Minor flooding is likely Saturday and moderate coastal flooding is expected during high tide Sunday. 2-3 feet of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.
Flash flooding is on the lower side, but watch low-lying and poor drainage spots. Minor localized street flooding may be an issue. Rainfall totals will be in the 2 to 3 inches range with locally higher amounts. Visibility will be an issue with the wind-driven rain.
