The monsignor and parishioners at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Yonkers are pleading for the return of a stolen holy statue.
The statue depicts the blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a Native American who is in the process of being considered for sainthood. According to police, the thief took the 2-foot statue Friday, wrapped it in cloth and left the church. Police say the suspect not only took the statue, worth about $1,800, but tried to take the plaque beneath it.
Police say a witness saw the suspect leave the church and gave them a good description.
