Five unions representing Yonkers city employees held a rally at City Hall Wednesday, calling for a raise and benefits.
Employees say they have worked nearly five years without a new contract and believe it is long overdue.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says he supports workers' demands for a raise, but wants to keep it within reason. He says a good number of the employees are Yonkers taxpayers, and they understand the city has budget constraints. He hopes they can find an agreement that taxpayers and employees are happy with.
A spokesman for the Teamsters Union says they have no plans to strike.
