The Yonkers Board of Education will meet next Monday to choose an interim school superintendent.
Michael Yazurlo unexpectedly submitted a letter of resignation to the board on Friday, citing health reasons.
Just days before the resignation, Yonkers police seized computers from the Board of Education, looking into what they call unauthorized use of those devices. Yazurlo denies allegations that he downloaded inappropriate materials.
Yazurlo took over the state's fourth-largest school district in February 2014 for a term expected to end in June. He has said publicly in the past that he hoped the Yonkers Board of Education would renew his contract for three years.
