The World War II bomber that crashed Wednesday in Connecticut was heading to Westchester this weekend for an event.

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, which News 12 captured flying into Westchester Airport in 2014, is the same model that crashed Wednesday in Connecticut.

The plane was part of the Wings of Freedom Tour, which visits more than 100 cities across the country and has visited Westchester County numerous times.

This year's event was scheduled to take place Thursday through Sunday at the Westchester County Airport.

The Wings of Freedom Tour is an annual event that lets families get up-close with World War II planes and take a historic ride in one of the allied aircrafts.

One flight coordinator talked to News 12 about the plane when it was in Westchester in 2014. 

“It’s only one of about eight B-17s flying in the world today. It's really World War II that brought the term bomber aircraft into play,” said Ryan Keough, of Wings of Freedom Tour.

The Collings Foundation confirms it is suspending future activities due to the crash.
