The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor 65 years ago pushing the U.S into World War II. Thursday there was a special ceremony at Eastchester Town Hall to commemorate war veterans.
A bell marked the time the first wave of attacks began on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 as Eastchester's war veterans remembered that day. World War II veterans say they haven?t forgotten and they want to make sure no one else does. The number of World War II veterans is dwindling, which is why they say it is important to tell their stories.
Part of the tradition in Eastchester is raising a special flag that actually flew over the Arizona Memorial in Honolulu. That flag will fly at half-staff in front of Eastchester Town Hall to honor the more than 2,400 people who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
