Thousands of gallons of fuel are being cleaned up in the Hudson River after Saturday's deadly tugboat crash.
Authorities said the crash happened as three tugboats were pushing a barge from Albany to Jersey City, New Jersey. The accident occurred near the center of the existing Tappan Zee Bridge, and the boat, named the Specialist, sank in about 40 feet of water within minutes.
After striking the barge, the tugboat began leaking up to 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel, creating a fuel slick approximately 100 yards wide and 5 miles long.
Crews deployed booms set up to absorb the fuel as oil and commercials divers were on scene Monday to figure out how to remove the wreckage from the river. Divers who have been down to the wreckage say it's heavily damaged, and it's not known how much fuel remains in its tanks.
