A Mount Vernon woman is demanding answers after bringing her leased car in for repairs, only to find that it was given to someone else to use as loaner car.
Tasceica Watkis, of Mount Vernon, says she leased a 2018 Toyota Highlander LE from New Rochelle Toyota, and immediately began experiencing mechanical problems.
She took the car in for service at the dealership on Cedar Street in August. She says it was in for repairs for three weeks before receiving the call it was ready.
Watkis says when she went to pick it up, the dealership was not able to find it or tell her who was the last person to see the vehicle on the premises.
News 12 reached out to the dealership, which said it never happened before, explaining "two identical vehicles of the same model, year, color and trim level were being picked up by customers at the same time."
"They actually gave my car out to a customer as a loaner vehicle,” says Watkis.
Watkis reported the car stolen and says the dealership tracked down the car a few days later only to find scratches, more than 200 miles were added, a dent in the front and stains in the backseat.
Watkis went straight to the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint.
She says she wants out of her lease.
Toyota responded in a statement, reading in part: "We sincerely apologize to Ms. Watkis for this inconvenience and will continue to pursue her complete satisfaction in whatever manner need be."
Watkis says she isn’t picking up her car until she gets answers.
