A jury returned after just four hours with a guilty verdict for a woman accused of killing her mother in Ossining in 2006.
Anne Trovato was accused of stabbing her mother to death and beating her with a baseball bat last year. Prosecutors say DNA from the knife used to kill Patricia Mery links Trovato to the crime. Mery's body was found by police on Mother's Day. Jurors were also presented with cell phone records and a supermarket shopping card in order to create a timeline for the murder.
Throughout the five-week trial the defense has maintained that even if Trovato hurt her mother, she never intended to kill her. The two women were involved in a custody battle over Trovato's young daughter. Trovato's attorney suggested her roommate, Carmella Magnetti, or a family member were at the crime scene.Trovato could face anywhere from 25 years to life in prison. She is expected to be sentenced Jan. 15.
