A Mount Vernon man has been arrested for allegedly striking and killing a woman in Soundview Tuesday night, just down the road from her home.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Bronx River Parkway and E. 174th Street, according to the NYPD.
Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows a 2021 Dodge Ram speeding down Bronx River Avenue, striking several parked cars. That same car allegedly struck 31-year-old Carina Lopez during the collision, who police say had just stepped out of her parked car.
The driver of that vehicle has been identified by police as Robert Johnson, 42, who has been charged with reckless endangerment and reckless driving in connection to the collision.
Lopez was taken by emergency personnel to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
NYPD Emergency Service Personnel had to extricate Johnson from his totaled 2021 Dodge Ram after the accident, police say. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital under police custody with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
News 12 will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
