Sunday's ferocious winds caused a tree to fall into a two-family home in Mount Vernon.
Devon Ormsby, who lives inside the Cedar Avenue home, said he heard the crash around 8 a.m.
"It was torn out from the root," he said.
Ormsby tells News 12 the tree had been rotting for a while and that he had meant to call the city to get rid of it.
He said he wasn't expecting the blustery blast of winter-like air to remove it from the ground.
"DPW chopped up the tree. The power lines are still down and Con Ed will be coming to straighten them out," he said. "The electricity is still on but everyone here is just thankful they are OK."
