After 12 years in office, White Plains Mayor Joseph Delfino announced Friday he will not be running for re-election.
"I've completed my leg of the race," Delfino says. "It was a great run."
During Delfino's three terms in city hall, downtown White Plains underwent a transformation, turning into a bustling commercial area with "The Renaissance Center" at its heart.
"This is my home town," Delfino says. "I was born and raised here. I walked these streets when there were one-story buildings, and look at it today."
Some local residents agree that White Plains has become a better place to live and work because of Mayor Delfino's efforts. Others, however, believe the downtown area has been overdeveloped.
If Delfino were to seek another term, Assemblyman Adam Bradley would most likely have been his opponent. Bradley, who is serving his own fourth term in Albany, is expected to announce his decision to enter the mayoral race Monday.
