One of America?s most wanted fugitives who police say robbed upscale homes in Westchester and Connecticut was arrested after nine years on the run.
Police say Alan Golder broke into affluent homes in Scarsdale, Rye, Harrison and Greenwich, Connecticut for almost a year beginning in September 1996. Police say Golder was dubbed the ?dinnertime bandit? because he would break into bedrooms, many times while the owners were eating dinner downstairs, and steal millions in jewelry. Police say the consummate cat burglar was arrested in Belgium on similar charges.
According to police, Golder served 15 years in prison for the shooting of a Long Island millionaire during a botched robbery. Police say soon after his release, he resumed his life of crime. Authorities say the extradition process will be long and drawn out. The statute of limitations has passed in some of the local jurisdictions. However, there are still outstanding warrants issued from state police, the FBI and Connecticut authorities.
