A Westchester County police officer is being hailed as a hero Saturday after helping deliver a baby on the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers.
Maria Vega was in intense labor when her husband, Angel, was driving her to the hospital at around 7 a.m. The Bronx couple was stuck in traffic due to an accident. That accident turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When the couple tried to get around the traffic jam, they spotted Officer Christopher Grasso and flagged him down. Grasso was filling out the accident report near the Oak Street exit.
Grasso helped deliver a baby boy, holding his head and making sure his nose was clear. Mother and child are doing fine at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville and are very grateful to Officer Grasso.
