Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins reassured travelers on Tuesday that a new "unnecessarily alarmist" Homeland Security public service announcement would not air in Westchester County Airport.
The video featured Secretary Kristi Noem, who oversees the TSA.
"It is TSA's top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe....However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, many of our operations are impacted," says Secretary Noem.
The county says it reviewed the request made by the Department of Homeland Security, known as DHS, to replace the REAL ID video with a PSA released by Noem, and will not be displaying it at Westchester County Airport.
Ken Jenkins addressed the request in his weekly update on Tuesday:
"Westchester County will continue to coordinate and work with all of our federal agencies to ensure that airport operations remain secure and uninterrupted for the travelers throughout any federal government shutdown."
According to the AP, airports across the nation including Las Vegas, Charlotte, Atlanta and more have rejected playing the video, citing it goes against their policies regarding political speech within the airport.
County Executive Jenkins added that regardless of any federal government shutdown, the airport will continue to run efficiently and safely.
