Westchester County Executive received his flu shot during
his COVID-19 briefing Thursday, and encouraged others to do the same.
Dr. Sherlita Amler, commissioner of the county Department of
Health, says one flu shot vaccine will protect for the whole season. She says
they can be found at a wide range of locations, including pharmacies.
During the briefing, Latimer said there were 605 active
COVID-19 briefing cases in the county, and his
team is keeping a close eye on clusters of cases in nearby Orange and Rockland
counties.
He said Westchester would not consider shutting anything
down “out of fear” but rather rely on the data provided by health officials.
Out of 4,000 tests reported on Wednesday, 47 people tested
positive for COVID-19, an infection rate of 1.4%.
There are currently 27 people hospitalized in the county.
Latimer says 11 people have died in Westchester from COVID-19 in past two
months, a dramatic drop since the height of the crisis.
