A 46-year-old Brooklyn man has been sentenced to four years in state prison after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance and bail jumping, Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy announced.

Prosecutors say Michael Carroll fled after his 2021 arrest and remained at large until he was apprehended on Sept. 16, 2025.

The case began on March 8, 2021, when Carroll was stopped on the Taconic State Parkway for multiple traffic violations.

During the stop, he allegedly provided a Putnam County sheriff's deputy with a false name and date of birth.

A search of his vehicle found more than 1,500 methamphetamine pills and pill fragments, weighing over two ounces, prosecutors said.

After his arrest, Carroll failed to appear in court, resulting in an indictment on a bail-jumping charge and a warrant for his arrest.

“1,500 meth pills and a lot of pill fragments. He may have been splitting them up for sale purposes,” Tendy said. “Just really dangerous stuff. When he was arrested in 2021, he never came back to court and a warrant was issued. Fortunately, we got him back.”

Tendy said Carroll has multiple prior arrests and felony convictions.

His state prison term is followed by two years of post-release supervision.
