The West Point Fire Department has received a new firetruck to replace some of its aging equipment.
The department serves 6,500 military families on the West Point Military Academy in Orange County.
Sen. Chuck Schumer recently called on the Army to overturn budget cuts gravely impacting the department.
Schumer said the department had failing equipment that did not pass inspection.
His efforts helped secure $1.8 million in federal aid for the department, that helped to purchase the new fire truck.
