Broken pipes, dug-up lawns and exorbitant water bills are becoming ongoing issues for about two dozen Putnam Valley residents.
The source of the problem for the residents of the Mill Pond community are plastic pipes that were installed by developers. The pipes are now systematically being replaced with copper piping.
To overhaul the entire system, it's expected to cost around $150,000, or nearly $4,000 per household at Mill Pond.
Adding to the total is the cost of receiving water from Yorktown via New York City. The standard out-of-district rate is about four times what in-town households pay.
The community is hoping to negotiate that price down with the city.
