A 12-inch water main break disrupted daily life in Morrisania for hours Friday afternoon.

Officials say the break happened near Tinton Avenue and East 156th Street. Police shut down a four-block stretch after a large section of the street broke open. Officials say the streets were shut down due to fear of sinkholes developing.

The Department of Environmental Protection shut down water to the area while crews worked to fix the break. Con Ed crews are working on fixing the street.
