A Town of Warwick police officer was wheeled out of Westchester Medical Center on Monday less than a week after suffering serious injuries while driving her patrol car.

Officer Jordan Tetreault left the trauma center flanked by her fellow police officers, state troopers, and EMS workers, as well as the nurses and doctors who saved her life.

"Jordan is on a way to a good recovery. She's tough. She's fighting hard," said Town of Warwick Police Chief John Rader.

Last Tuesday night, Tetreault was in her patrol car when an 18-wheeler driven by Mouhamadou Diallo, 50, of Brooklyn broadsided the car.

State troopers said the tractor-trailer was traveling north on Warwick Turnpike when it struck the police vehicle going south on State Route 94. The truck followed through the intersection and struck a telephone pole.

It took first responders roughly an hour to extricate Officer Tetreault from her car. She was flown to Westchester Medical Center for treatment after suffering serious injuries to her entire body.

"The most gratifying part of what we do is to see patients actually recover and be able to be integrated back into their communities and with their families because that provides us the inspiration to understand the fact that what we do actually can make a difference," said Doctor Kartik Prabhakaran, chief of trauma at Westchester Medical Center.

Diallo was taken to Garnet Medical Center with minor injuries.

Officer Tetreault began her career with the Warwick Police Department part-time in 2021 and had just been promoted to full-time officer on July 1, according to Rader.

"She fought hard to become a police officer. And this just shows just what a tough fighter she is, just the way she's fighting through this now," said Rader.

Officer Tetreault is expected to make a full recovery after completing her rehabilitation.

A fundraiser to help with the rehab costs has raised $10,000 in two days.
