Family and friends said goodbye Thursday to the toddler who was hit and killed by a truck just outside his home in Rockland County.
Dominic Mero, who was just 20 months old, lost his life last Friday when he was hit outside his family's home at the Lottie Garden apartment complex.
Tenants there say there's a blind spot as drivers make a turn into the parking lot where children are often playing.
The driver, a 33-year-old man from Pomona, stayed on the scene of the accident. No charges have been filed against him and his name will not be released until the investigation is complete.
Mero's family held the wake service at the Rivera Funeral Home in Queens. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow in Corona. He will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens.
There has been an outpouring of support from the community. A group from Rockland County sent representatives to the funeral home to deliver a check to the family to assist with funeral costs. The Orthodox Jewish Affairs Council raised about $2,200 through community donations. A deli also raised about $200 for the family.
