Hundreds of people paid tribute Thursday evening to a Yonkers detective killed in a crash on Sunday.
They attended the wake for Frank Fernandez at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Park Avenue in Yonkers.
Yonkers police say Fernandez's SUV collided with a firetruck on the way to a call at Palmer and Sunnybrook roads.
The 15-year veteran of the police force died at the scene. Firefighters unsuccessfully tried to save him by cutting him out of the vehicle.
His funeral is scheduled for Friday morning at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers.
