Voters to decide Monday whether to dissolve Highland Falls' gov't, merge into town
The future of a century-old village in Orange County will be decided next week when residents vote on whether to dissolve their government and merge into the town.
The future of Highland Falls is now up to voters when residents cast their ballots on Monday.
People in favor of dissolving village government say it will save taxpayers money – but not everyone seems on board.
Four out of five people News 12 spoke to say their vote on the controversial referendum will be no.
The move would disband the police department, Village Hall and other municipal services, which would then be provided by the Town of Highlands.
Highland Falls was founded in 1906 and has roughly 4,000 residents.
If passed, village leaders will have six months to present a dissolution plan at a public hearing.
