The decision scheduled Tuesday night for a possible rent hike on rent controlled apartments in Mount Vernon and Yonkers has temporarily been postponed. The vote was postponed because Westchester's Rent Guidelines Board says it needs more time to review information and numbers. Tenant advocates held a press conference before the meeting of Westchester's Rent Guidelines Board calling for the rent-stabilized apartments to stay priced exactly where they are. They say many of the people living in the apartments are seniors that can't afford more rent hikes.Last year, the board raised the rent on one-year leases by 4.75 percent, saying the increase was long overdue and that the buildings are old and often in need of repair.More discussions and a possible vote are scheduled for Thursday, October 26.
