Thousands of volunteers come out in force to clean up the shores of the Hudson River across the Hudson Valley this weekend.
The 6th Annual 2017 Riverkeeper Sweep had over 90 cleanup projects along the shoreline from Brooklyn to Troy.
Volunteers filled garbage bags with trash and planted or maintained hundreds of trees and native grasses. "A lot of debris gets washed ashore from people throwing items in the river, maybe from construction sites, and the river goes in and out, so there is always a lot of debris. We feel it’s necessary for us as citizens of the Earth to really take care of the Hudson," says volunteer Muriel Poure.
In 2016, the Riverkeeper Sweep removed 48 tons of debris from the river.
